History trip to Poland and Germany Day 4: We spent the morning exploring the Wieliczka salt mine. The mine dates back to the Middle Ages and was the main source of revenue for the Polish monarchy. We spent nearly 4 hours underground and walked through almost 2 km of tunnels which still only accounts for 1% of the total size of the mine. After dinner we had a wonderful time exploring Kraków on the tram system.
This is the first post from the trip to Poland and Germany. We arrived on Saturday the 9th July and have now spent nearly 3 days in Kraków. Highlights over the weekend have included visiting the Oskar Schindler museum in Kraków and the World War Two Jewish Ghetto. On Monday afternoon we spent 4 hours visiting Auschwitz. I don’t think any of us were really prepared for the sheer scale of the site and The emotional impact it had on us all.
