Tavistock win Year 7 Devon co-operative schools football tournament

Year 7 football team win the Devon Co-operative school football tournament!!!

We entered two Tavistock football teams into this 16 team competition. The two groups for our teams comprised of 6 teams.

In the five group games both teams finished with records of Won 4 Drew 1 Lost 0 and won their respective groups. The style of football and character shown by both teams was fantastic and very impressive. As you can see by the results below there were tremendous performances.

Quarter – Finals

Tavistock A 1 West Exe 0 – this was a close game, but Tavistock always had the edge and a brilliant close range finish by Jack Hutchinson from a Matt Brimacombe cross decided the game against the reigning champions.

Tavistock B 0 Okehampton A 0 – this draw saw both sides progress due to a superior goal difference.

Semi-finals

Tavistock A 0 Okehampton A 0 – Tavistock win 4-3 on penalties.

A very tense game saw very few chances. In the penalty shoot-out Owen Hicks saved two penalties to progress the team to the final.

Tavistock B 0 Cullompton 1

One chance decided this close game and the valiant efforts of the boys wasn’t quite enough. A tremendous performance to get to this stage.

Final

Tavistock A 2 Cullompton 1 – golden goal.

Tavistock made a fantastic start when in the first minute their influential captain Matt Brimacombe crossed for striker Jack Hutchinson to score. The game continued to be close and Cullompton got an equaliser halfway through the game. There were limited chances for the remainder of the match, but a brilliant double save from Owen Hicks took the game to golden goals extra-time. One goal wins the tournament and after a scramble in the penalty area the persistent Jack Hutchinson shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net to win the trophy for Tavistock College.
