6F Collapsed Curriculum Day

On Wednesday 2 April, all of Year 12 took part in a collapsed curriculum day designed to support both their academic progress and wider personal development. The day provided an opportunity for students to engage in learning beyond their usual timetable, focusing on skills that will support them throughout their post-16 studies and beyond.

Students worked in two separate groups and took part in a carousel of two carefully planned, high-quality sessions, ensuring that everyone benefited from both experiences during the day. The structure of the carousel allowed students to remain focused and engaged while gaining a balance of academic support and practical, real-world skills.

The first session was led by MADE Training, focusing on building effective study skills and strategies for post-16 learning. Our current Year 13 students recently attended this workshop and rated it very highly, so we were delighted to welcome MADE back to give Year 12 the same valuable experience and practical tools to support their studies.

The second session was a CPR and lifesaving skills workshop, delivered by volunteer trainers from St John Ambulance. This hands-on and engaging session equipped students with essential knowledge and confidence in emergency first aid, skills that are not only useful in school but potentially life-saving beyond it.

The day was extremely well received and provided a meaningful balance of academic support and real-world skills, helping to prepare Year 12 students for the challenges ahead.

The theme of student testimonials was:

“The study skills session was helpful and gave me practical techniques I can actually use in my lessons and revision. It’s made me feel more confident about managing my workload in Year 12.”

“The CPR and lifesaving workshop was engaging and informative. It was great to learn real skills that could genuinely help someone in an emergency, and the session was delivered in a really clear and enjoyable way.”
