Abstract Art Workshop

Year 12 students experienced an Abstract Art Workshop this week with local artist Sara Venner from Kimono Design. She offered students an inspiring opportunity to explore creativity beyond traditional boundaries. Held in the school’s art studio, the session began with Sara sharing insights into her artistic journey and the expressive power of abstraction. She introduced students to a range of techniques, including layering, texturing, and intuitive mark-making, encouraging them to focus on movement rather than realism. Through guided demonstrations and open discussion, participants learned how colour, form, and composition could be used to convey ideas and feelings in unique and personal ways. We also had the privilege of Alumni student Avie Venner, helping students with their creations.

As the workshop progressed, students gained confidence in experimenting with unconventional materials and spontaneous methods of painting. Sara provided individual feedback, helping each student develop their own artistic voice while connecting their work to broader themes in modern art. By the end of the day, students not only produced a series of striking abstract pieces but also developed a deeper appreciation for experimentation and self-expression in art. The workshop proved to be both technically enriching and emotionally rewarding, leaving a lasting impact on the group’s artistic development.
