Climate change around the world
What an incredible global learning experience for our Year 8 geographers!
On Thursday 11th June our students had the amazing opportunity to take part in a live lesson with students from Malawi and Sierra Leone, sharing real-life experiences of how climate change is impacting lives around the world as a part of the Great Big Green Week.
Our students heard first-hand how:
-
Flooding and extreme weather can damage homes, schools and communities, making it harder for children to learn
-
Droughts and unpredictable rainfall make it difficult for families to grow food and earn a living
-
Access to clean water and safe sanitation can be affected, increasing health risks
-
Storms and cyclones can disrupt everyday life and even force families to leave their homes
This powerful conversation helped our students understand that climate change is not just a future issue — it is already affecting young people’s lives today, especially in countries more vulnerable to extreme weather. Our students then though about ways we as a school could be doing our part to fight climate change.
We are so proud of our Year 8 students for their thoughtful questions, empathy and engagement.
