Diana anti-bullying award
On Tuesday 13th January, Mrs Blackmore and Mr Hulbert took 12 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 to Okehampton to take part in the Diana Award Anti-Bullying Training. The students were an absolute credit to Tavistock College and represented the student body brilliantly throughout the day. The Diana Award Anti-Bullying initiative is a nationally recognised programme that empowers young people to take the lead in tackling bullying by promoting kindness, inclusion and positive behaviour change within schools and communities. During the training, students explored what bullying is, how to support those who display bullying behaviour, and the Diana Award’s key message that bullying behaviour is a choice that must be challenged, with appropriate support put in place to help individuals change. In the afternoon, students worked collaboratively to develop ideas they could bring back to Tavistock College, working towards one of three Diana Award badges: Community, Wellbeing or Inclusion. These badges recognise impactful work that engages the wider school community, promotes positive wellbeing and peer support, or champions diversity, inclusion and equal rights linked to the nine protected characteristics. This group of students will form part of our Lower School Student Leadership Team and are now refining their ideas, with plans to meet Mr Buchanan to present their learning and propose future anti-bullying actions for the college.
