Maths Challenge Success
Tavistock College Celebrates National Maths Success and Outstanding Academic Progress
Tavistock College is proud to announce exceptional achievements in mathematics, both in national competitions and academic performance. Our students have demonstrated remarkable talent and determination, placing the college among the top-performing schools in the country.
This year, 17 students excelled in the prestigious UK Mathematics Challenge, a nationwide competition run by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT). The challenge is designed to inspire a love of problem-solving and logical thinking, attracting hundreds of thousands of entries from schools across the UK. Success in this competition is a significant accomplishment, showcasing students’ ability to tackle complex and creative mathematical problems.
The UKMT is one of the largest mathematics enrichment organizations in the UK, dedicated to advancing the education of young people in mathematics. Its challenges promote reasoning, precision, and creativity through engaging and thought-provoking problems. Achieving an award places students among the top performers nationally.
This year’s results were excellent:
- Silver Awards:
- Logan Deacon – Silver & Best in School
- Astrid Jones-Sheppard – Silver & Best in Year
- Bronze Awards:
Arthur Anderson-Stacey, Tom Cole, Mani Hillman, Henry Hoskins, Marian Kanievskyi, Kieren McLaughlin, Oliver Reeves, James Turner, Jo Bales, Erin Hill, Oliver Houlberg
The UK Mathematics Challenge is renowned for its thought-provoking questions that go beyond the classroom curriculum, encouraging students to apply logic, reasoning, and problem-solving skills in innovative ways. We are incredibly proud of every student who took part.
Academic Excellence Beyond the Challenge
Our commitment to high standards in mathematics is also reflected in last year’s A-level results. Students achieved, on average, nearly half a grade higher than the national performance, placing Tavistock College in the top 26% of schools nationally for value added. This demonstrates the exceptional progress our students make and the dedication of our teaching staff to ensuring every learner reaches their full potential.
