Sixth Form Criminology Students Gain Insight from Esteemed Legal Experts
Our Sixth Form Criminology students recently had the privilege of hearing from two distinguished members of the judiciary: Mr Philip Mott King’s Counsel (KC), retired Crown Court Recorder and Deputy High Court Justice, and Her Honour Judge Robertshaw, Circuit Judge and Deputy High Court Judge.
The session offered a fascinating glimpse into the workings of the courtroom. Mr Mott provided a detailed explanation of the journey a case takes, from its first appearance in court through to sentencing. He discussed how different circumstances influence sentencing decisions, giving students a real-world understanding of judicial processes.
Her Honour Judge Robertshaw shared insights into her role as a Circuit Judge in the Family Court, outlining the responsibilities and challenges that come with presiding over serious cases. Her perspective highlighted the importance of fairness, impartiality, and the weight of judicial decision-making.
Students engaged enthusiastically throughout the session, asking thoughtful and challenging questions that demonstrated their curiosity and understanding of the subject. This interaction made the event even more valuable and inspiring.
This unique opportunity allowed students to deepen their understanding of the criminal justice system and engage directly with experts who have shaped legal practice at the highest levels.
