Tavistock College Girls Shine at Under-15 County Cricket Finals
Tavistock College’s Under-15 girls cricket squad delivered an inspiring performance at the highly competitive County Finals held yesterday at the University of Exeter Sports Camp.
The event brought together the top eight schools from across Devon, each having earned their place through local qualifying rounds. Tavistock found themselves in an exceptionally tough group featuring Churston Grammar, Colyton, and the eventual winners, Blundell’s School. Despite the challenge, the team displayed determination, skill, and resilience throughout the tournament.
Although Tavistock were unable to secure a win in their group matches, all games were fiercely contested. Their efforts were rewarded with an impressive 8th place finish in the county, a strong achievement given the calibre of opposition.
Standout Performances Noted by County Organisers
Several Tavistock players caught the attention of the Devon County Cricket organisers for exceptional individual contributions:
- Sophia Bellamy delivered a remarkable bowling display, taking 3 wickets for 8 runs against champions Blundell’s — an outstanding feat against the top team.
- In the same match, Tavistock achieved something no other school managed all day: they took all 8 Blundell’s wickets, the only side to bowl out the unbeaten winners.
- Lillia Pocknell also impressed, taking 3 for 9 including a maiden over in the fixture against Churston Grammar.
A special thanks was extended to Clare Dawe, who supported the team throughout the day.
