World Book Day at the College!

Tavistock College embraced World Book Day this year with enthusiasm, celebrating a shared love of reading and encouraging positive conversations around literacy across the school.
The day began with a staff and student book‑character fancy‑dress competition, featuring a brilliant range of costumes. Highlights included a Lord of the Rings theme from the English Department, a very convincing Miss Trunchbull from Mrs Pearson. Student outfits were plentiful including Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, and even a group of Minions! We were incredibly impressed by the creativity and dedication shown by both students and staff.

Throughout the day, all students spent the first ten minutes of every lesson reading the next part of a short story, allowing them to reach the ending by period five. This staggered approach created a sense of anticipation, leaving students eager to discover what would happen next and building intrigue and excitement across the school.

Tutor groups also took part in a competitive World Book Day quiz, tackling three rounds of book‑themed questions — including a much‑loved “Guess the Teacher’s Favourite Book” section, which proved particularly popular with students.

Entries for the illustration and bookmark competitions are now with Mrs Caves and Mrs Green for judging, and the winners will be announced next week.

Well done, Team Tavi!
