Netball and Football News

On Tuesday 29th September Tavistock College took a netball team and a five aside football team to Asbury Golf Hotel Okehampton for a Cooperative Schools event. The pupils were extremely lucky to get the opportunity to perform on brand new astro and indoor netball courts.

The girls had 11 teams to contend with and after a slow start they started to grow in confidence and secured a win and a draw placing them 3rd in their pool. The boys won three games, drew one and lost a game they played with great determination and a positive sporting attitude.

All the pupils were a credit to the College and a pleasure to spend the
day with.

The girls players of the match was Tabitha Myler and Mrs Doyles star
player was Tabitha Myler

Captain was Emilia Barrett.

A message from the Principal

We are becoming concerned about the number of vehicles coming onto the College site in the morning between 08.20am – 08.50am and after school between 3.10pm – 3.30pm to drop off or collect students. Our main concern is for the safety of our students when the vast majority of them are arriving and leaving to walk home or travel by bus.

Please will you refrain from driving vehicles onto the College site during these times (08.30am-08.50am and 3.10pm-3.30pm) to drop off or collect students. There is one exception to this. For students with disabilities or particular issues you are welcome to drop off your child. In this instance, please contact Linda Coe, Premises Manager to arrange for a pass to be issued.

Students travelling by car to and from the College will need to be dropped off or picked up at an alternative location and walk into the College along one of a number of safe routes.

  1. Students coming into College from the Bishopsmead area have a safe route via the bridge alongside the football ground which will allow them to use the pedestrian path along Crowndale Road.
  2. Students coming in from the Monksmead area should use the safe route at the back of the College along the canal path.
  3. Students from Whitchurch, Pixon Lane, Plymouth Road etc should use the underpass to cross Plymouth Road.
  4. Students can be safely dropped off in the Wharf and Riverside car parks where they can walk through the Meadows and use the underpass to safely cross the road. There is no free parking and should only be used to drop the students off.

Please remember that if students have to walk from drop-off points, sufficient time will need to be allowed for them to arrive at the College by 8.35 a.m.

Cyclists should not use the footpath at the front of the College but follow the cycle route.
All regular users of our car park will be issued with a pass to use on the site and we will insist that this is displayed.

We are taking this action to try to prevent accidents and protect the children’s safety.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Break dance workshop

A small group of year 7 and 8 students had the chance to participate in a breakdance workshop at the college. Matt Macklin, a professional breakdancer taught the group for the whole day. They learnt a range of skills, learnt dance movement and even got to choreograph their own routine!

These guys were dancing for 5 hours! They were so well behaved and focussed and I am proud of them all. They also performed in the dance showcase which was fantastic. We are hoping to bring Matt in again next year!

Well done!
