Tavistock College - Together: we care, we challenge, we excel

Uniform Consultation

Posted: 22 June 2017

The unusual heat wave this week has made us consider our summer uniform policy. Whilst we clearly wish to maintain high standards of dress, it has become clear that the boys’ current uniform can be uncomfortable in hot weather. We are considering introducing tailored shorts for the boys as part of the summer uniform option for 2018

We will be undertaking a consultation with staff, parents and students over the next few weeks. If parents would like to make a contribution to this discussion they can do so by email (c.cocker@tavistockcollege.org) or in person at a meeting on 29th June, 3.45pm in the Innovation Centre.

Under 12s girls football Devon County finals

Posted: 19 June 2017

The Year 7 football squad embarked on the tough challenge of competing in the Devon football finals on Wednesday. They had already impressively defeated Okehampton to qualify for the finals.

The competition was in a league format of 8 teams, with the girls having to play 7 games of 10 minutes in the gruelling heat.

Tavistock girls realised the huge task ahead after narrowly losing the first two games, but showed great resilience to be unbeaten in the next four games. It was with immense pride and commitment that the girls were able to bounce back from the early setbacks to produce some outstanding football.

Even though we lost the last game an overall 5th place in Devon was a fantastic achievement!!!!!! The girls also found time to cheer on Horrabridge primary who finished third in the Under 10s event.

There were many outstanding performances including the string of brilliant saves from Chloe Knight in goal to keep four consecutive clean sheets and then follow this by amazingly scoring straight from a goalkick. It is also important to highlight the player of the tournament Tilly Murdoch. Her powerful runs from midfield were brilliant and resulted in being our top goalscorer. She is definitely a footballer to keep an eye on.

The girls were a credit to the college and again displayed the persistence, work ethic and team spirit mixed with skill to be successful at the highest level.

Tavistock Athletic success at Plymouth and West Devon Championships

Posted: 15 June 2017

We took a 37 strong Athletics squad (Year 7-10) to Brickfields yesterday to compete in this tough competition.

This involved students competing in a range of events in running, throwing and jumping disciplines. The students straight from the first event, competed outstandingly well and managed to collect 18 top 2 finishes.

There were so many fantastic performances, but in particular some students managed to achieve across different events.

Becky McArthur (Year 9) won the 75 metres hurdles and then helped Eggbuckland relay team win their race, as they had only three runners.

Jack Plummer (Year 9) won the discuss and then finished 2nd in the 800 metres. This was a brilliant race with Jack clawing back a 40 metre deficit on the leader just to narrowly miss out on the victory.

Emily Frost (Year 10) showed her sprinting prowess with 2nd in the 100 metres and then helping the 400 x 100m relay girls team to also finish 2nd.

Leon Bray (Year 9) demonstrated an excellent all round athletic ability. Winning his 80 metres hurdle race with ease and finishing 3rd in the high jump. He then followed this up with a powerful 2nd leg in the 4 x 100m relay to help the Year 9 boys win the race.
All the students were superb and as always performed with commitment and the highest standards.
